Tornet invigdes samtidigt med museet 1933, men skulpturen Kvinna vid havet restes, till följd av en byggnadsarbetarstrejk, först året därpå. Den ska minna om de sjömän som omkom under första världskriget. Kvinnan står på ett torn, vars totala höjd med skulpturen når 62 meter över havet.

The function-inspired building was designed by architect Anders Funkqvist and was built in 1939 for the Oceanographic Institute, which was also called the property for many years before it became the Culture House Ocean.

Det byggdes ursprungligen som Majornas flickskola och har varit folk- och realskola fram till 70-talet då specialskolan Gatenhielmska flyttade in. Numera är det Majornas kulturcentrum med två barer och restaurangkök specialiserade på god vegetarisk mat, bra musik och lokal öl.
The house was inaugurated in 1888. It was originally built as Majornas girl school and has been a folk and real school until the 70’s when special school Gatenhielmska moved in. Nowadays it is Majornas cultural center with two bars and restaurant kitchens specializing in good vegetarian food, good music and local beer.

Biografen ritades av arkitekten Nils Olsson, hade 800 platser och fick sitt namn från kaparen Lars Gathenhielm på grund av närheten till Gathenhielmska huset.

I huset bedrevs det krogrörelse, och det kallades för “Stigbergsvärdshuset” eller “Backlunds restaurang” efter föreståndarinnan Mathilda Backlund.
År 1892 uppfördes den inbyggda glasverandan med utsikt över älven och hamnen.
Idag finns en pub i lokalerna, en restaurang på husets takterrass och det anordnas klubbar och konserter i huset.

I pannhuset eldade man med flis och kol för att värma upp närliggande industrier, bland annat Carnegieska bruken. Pannhuset stod under 1980- och 1990-talen övergivet och användes då bland annat för svartklubbar, konserter och ravefester. Lokalen nyttjades även av graffitikonstnärer och delar av vissa målningar finns fortfarande kvar, främst i det största rummet, som kallas katedralen.
In 1940, a boiler house was built which today is Röda Sten art hall. In the boiler house, it was fired with chips and coal to heat up nearby industries, including the Carnegieska mills. The boiler house was abandoned during the 1980s and 1990s and was used for black clubs, concerts and rave parties. The premises were also used by graffiti artists, and parts of some paintings still exist, mainly in the largest room, which is called the cathedral.

För att tillgodose invånarnas behov anlades små lokala torg i var och vartannat kvarter. Göteborg var inget undantag och i november 1962 invigdes så Chapmans torg. Det variationsrika utbudet av affärer, torghandeln och inte minst lågprisvaruhuset EPA attraherade många besökare. Idag ligger två unika verksamheter i huset.
- Karaokebaren Sing Sing, där du kan hyra karaokerum per timme för dig och dina vänner och sjunga helt ostört.
- Majornas bryggeri är en bryggeripub där du i pubmiljön har full insyn till produktionslokalen som skapar deras karaktäristiska öl. Snacka om lokalproducerat.
Torget fick sitt namn 1939, efter den legendariska sjökaptenen Charles (Carl) Chapman som var verksam i Majorna på 1700-talet.
